Box Score BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — The Northern Michigan volleyball team was swept by No. 21 Ferris State Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs won by 25-20, 25-12 and 25-19 margins to send the Wildcats to 13-13 entering their final month of regular-season action.
"Hat's off to Ferris," head coach Dominic Yoder said. "They did a nice job serving us at critical points in the match. I'm proud of how my team competed in sets one and two."
In the first set, Ferris State built an early 10-2 advantage, but Northern Michigan roared back with an 8-5 run to pull within five points. The Wildcats drew within as close as three, at 18-15, but could not complete the comeback.
The Bulldogs won the final eight points of the second set to go up 2-0 in the match. In the third, Northern Michigan recovered by taking six of the first 10 points. Ferris State eventually tied the set at eight and then used 3-0 and 5-0 runs late in the set to pull away.
Marta Fraga Guntin led the Wildcats with 11 kills. Rachel Braunschweig (12) and Megan Dahl (11) paced the defense. As a team, Northern Michigan posted eight blocks.
"Marta had a nice day offensively, and Rachel again led us defensively," Yoder said.
The Wildcats return to the court Nov. 1 when they take on rival Michigan Tech at 6:30 p.m. in their final road game of the 2016 season. That game will be televised on FoxUP/TV6.
