Box Score MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan volleyball team fell in three sets to GLIAC South Leader Findlay Saturday afternoon at Vandament Arena.
The Oilers downed the Wildcats by 26-24, 25-17 and 34-32 margins.
In the third set, Northern Michigan trailed, 19-14, late. But the Wildcats won six of the next seven points to draw even with the Oilers at 20-20. Later, they fought off two straight set points to tie the score at 24 all.
From that point on, the teams traded points, being locked in a tie eight times, including at 32 all. But Findlay took the match by winning the final two points.
In the first set, Northern Michigan erased an early 10-6 Findlay by winning four-straight points. The Oilers responded with an 8-4 run of their own to take an 18-14 advantage. A Wildcat rally, which included a 7-3 run to tie the match at 21 all, would not be enough. Findlay ultimately closed out the first set on two-straight kills by Hannah Tong.
In the second set, Findlay went on four runs of at least three points en route to its victory.
Madison Whitehead recorded 14 kills while Maggie Liebeck contributed 10. Megan Dahl recorded 10 digs while Jami Hogeboom posted 31 assists.
Northern Michigan, now 9-8 (3-4 GLIAC), returns to the road next week, traveling to Urbana (Oct. 7, 5:30 p.m.) and Walsh (Oct. 8, 4:30 p.m.).
