Box Score HOUGHTON, Mich. — No. 21 Michigan Tech scored a late touchdown and then blocked a field goal attempt with three seconds remaining on the clock to down the Northern Michigan football team, 24-23, Saturday night at Sherman Field in the 14th-annual Miner's Cup game.
Michigan Tech held a 10-0 lead until the waning minutes of the first half. With 57 seconds remaining on the clock, Marcus Tucker took a screen pass from Shaye Brown and ran 38 yards for the score.
Tucker's touchdown opened a 20-0 run by the Wildcats. At the 10:15 mark in the third quarter, after hauling in a 64-yard pass to set Northern Michigan up on the Husky four-yard line, Keyondre Craig came up with a four-yard touchdown catch to give the Wildcats their first lead of the game.
With 2:34 left on the clock in the third quarter, Brandon Auguste picked off a Brandon Cowie pass and returned it 40 yards for a score. It was the first time a Wildcat pulled off a pick six since Dante Holmes in a 42-35 overtime loss at Malone Oct. 11, 2014.
Michigan Tech responded on its next drive with a touchdown after marching 75 yards down the field. Northern Michigan extended its lead to 23-17 on a 33-yard Ryan LaBerge field goal at the 8:16 mark, but it wouldn't be enough as the Huskies ate six minutes off the clock as they drove from their 25-yard line to the end zone.
