NMU Men's Basketball Closes Season Hosting Tech

MARQUETTE, Mich – Northern Michigan University men's basketball hosted Michigan Tech in the final game of the season but were defeated by the Huskies with a 71-52 final.  Northern Michigan finishes the season 9-19 with a 7-15 conference record, and the Huskies move to 19-7 on the season with a 16-6 conference mark and clinched the No. 2 seed for the GLIAC Conference Tournament.

Senior forward Chavis Mattison led the Wildcats with 15 points and six rebounds with senior guard Larry Taylor scoring six points and recording a game-high four assists.  Fellow senior guard Spencer Huss finished the game with two defensive rebounds.

Michigan Tech led the entire contest opening the game with a 15-4 run to give them the early lead with 14:22 left in the half.  The Huskies finished the half with a 7-0 run in the final two minutes to pull ahead 38-19 heading into the break.

NMU outscored Tech 5-0 in second chance points in the opening half with six offensive rebounds.  Freshman forward Cooper Radtke led NMU at the half with six points.

NMU shot 8-23 (.348) to open the game with MTU shooting 14-22 (.636) and 4-10 (.400) from the three point line.

The Wildcats managed to cut the Tech lead down to 12 on two occasions but it was as close as they'd manage with the final score settling at 71-52.

Northern Michigan was able to outscore the Huskies in the paint by a 16-6 margin in the second half and also scored nine points off of turnovers while holding the Huskies scoreless after turnovers.

The Wildcats shot 20-46 for a shooting percentage of 43.5-percent for the game with the Huskies going 26-44 (.591) and 7-18 (.389) from beyond the arc.
