Box Score QUINCY, Ill. — The Northern Michigan women's basketball team fell to Quincy, 89-60, in its opening game of the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge Saturday night.
The Wildcats and Hawks spent much of the first quarter trying to establish their own game plans, finding themselves in an 11-11 deadlock with 3:28 to play in the first quarter. Quincy would close out the first quarter by hitting back-to-back three pointers to take a 17-11 lead.
The Wildcats answered with a 5-0 run to start the second quarter in which Anna Liewen would connect from downtown for three. The Hawks would begin to build a lead and end the half on a 6-0 run. Quincy would hold the advantage at the half, 49-28.
The Hawks would begin to build a bigger lead in the third quarter in which they would outscore the Wildcats, 25-13. Northern Michigan started the fourth quarter with an 8-2 run in which Sydney Dillinger would find the bottom of the net on a three pointer at the 7:17 mark. But the Hawks responded by upping the pressure and went on to win, 89-60.
Taylor Hodell led the Wildcats with 14 points, while Liewen added 11 points and led all players with 9 rebounds.
The Wildcats went 10-12 from the free throw line and pulled in 30 rebounds as team.
Northern Michigan will return to the floor tomorrow against Truman at 2 p.m.
