Chance Vang

Chance Vang was named the Northern Michigan University men’s soccer assistant coach in January of 2024.

In his first season on staff at NMU, the Wildcats earned national recognition, receiving votes in the NCAA Division II National Polls in the 2024 season. The team led the GLIAC in shots, shots on goal, and attacking corner kicks during the regular season. The ‘Cats also produced one All-Region selection, three All-Conference honorees, and five CSC Academic All-District selections.

Vang spent the 2023 season at the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs (UCCS), where the program had an overall record of 10-6-5 with an appearance in the NCAA National Tournament. The Mountain Lions were ranked as high as No. 14 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 NCAA DII National Polls.

In 2023, Vang founded Dark Horse Futbol, based in Colorado, which has since expanded to California, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. The creation of Dark Horse Futbol was inspired by the Hmong community and others who were built in the shadows and often overlooked. Dark Horse provides camps, technical & tactical development, and guidance on the college recruiting process.

Prior to his time at UCCS, Vang served as the Head Coach at Northeastern Junior College, where he guided the program to a 24-7-3 record over two seasons (2021–2023). Under his leadership, the team climbed as high as No. 18 in the NJCAA Division I National Rankings. Vang also helped numerous players advance to four-year programs across NCAA Division I, II, and NAIA levels, including New Hampshire, Gardner-Webb, CSU Pueblo, UCCS, and Hastings.

Vang is uniquely qualified for the position as a former student-athlete and graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Parkside, a member of the GLIAC. During his time at Parkside, he was part of the 2019 squad that won both the GLIAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships, earning an automatic berth to the NCAA National Tournament.

Originally from Denver, Colorado, Vang developed through the Colorado Rapids MLS Academy and Colorado Rush Academy within the U.S. Soccer Development Academy (DA) system. In 2012, he led the Colorado Rapids to a Colorado State Cup Championship and was recognized as the Colorado State MVP.

Vang currently also serves as the head coach and board member for the Hmong Futbol Federation (HFF), which qualified for the CONIFA World Cup, an international competition with other stateless ethnic groups.
