Northern Michigan University Athletics announced the addition of Michael Dellemann as an assistant coach for the women's track & field program prior to the 2018-19 season.
Dellemann was a part of the 2024-25 coaching staff that was honored with the GLIAC Outdoor Coaching Staff of the Year. Northern had a historic outdoor campaign, claiming its best-ever GLIAC finish in program history by taking 2nd. Northern had a whopping nine podium finishes with Teiolla Harvey (javelin) and Ellyse Wolfrath (100m hurdles) taking first. The team also set three new school records at the meet. Harvey, Alayna Vandegriff (triple jump) and Crystal Walker (long jump and 100m hurdles) were named All-Region. Walker advanced to the the NCAA Championships in the 100m hurdles.
Dellemann joined the NMU Women's Track & Field staff for the 2018-19 season after spending the past two seasons at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. At UWSP, Dellemann helped eight Pointer athletes qualify for the NCAA Championships, including an All-American in the indoor heptathlon.
In his professional athletic career, Dellemann competed for the elite development team of the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton team between 2011 and 2013. He was ranked fourth on the team heading into the 2014 Winter Olympics after recording multiple top international finishes.
Beginning his coaching career at Stevens Point Area High School in 2010, Dellemann worked with the pole vault, hurdles, and high jump. He remained in the position for seven seasons where he coached a state champion, multiple state qualifiers, and helped guide the school to numerous conference titles.
As a student athlete for the Pointers, Dellemann was an All-American in 2009 for the indoor pentathlon and in 2010 for the indoor 55-meter hurdles. He was a three-time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Champion and set school records in the indoor pentathlon.
Dellemann graduated from UW-Stevens Point in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in business administration before earning his MBA from Keller Graduate School in 2015. A native of Oregon, Wisconsin, Dellemann now resides in Ishpeming with partner, Emily, and daughter, Penny.
