2013-14: At Hillsdale (Oct. 11) she led the team with three wins (100 breast stroke, 200 IM and the 200 medley relay team). At the UW-Eau Claire and Gustavas Adolphus dual meet she won the 100 and 200 breast stroke. She continued to win by placing first in the 400 individual medley (4:33.98) breaking a pool record. At the same meet she broke the NMU school record in the 100 breaststroke with her time of 1:03.59. Competed at the NCAA Championships in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke.
2012-13: Earned second letter. Named team’s most improved. Won the 200-yard butterfly against Hillsdale (Oct. 13). Placed first in the 200 butterfly and second in the 400 individual medley at the St. Cloud Invite (Oct. 19-20). Against UW-Eau Claire (Nov. 3), won the 400 IM. Won the 400 IM and 400 medley team placed second in the Border Battle Invite (Nov. 9-10). 800 freestyle relay team finished fifth and the 200 freestyle team placed fourth at the Calvin College Invite (Nov. 29-Dec.1); individually placed second in 200 breaststroke, third in 400 IM, fifth in 200 butterfly and 11th in the 1,650 freestyle. At the GLIAC Championships (Feb. 6-9), won the 200 IM and the 400 IM with a time of 4:27.61 for a school record, finished third in the 200 breaststroke, 400 medley relay team also placed fourth, breaking a school required with a time of 3:49.01. Qualified for the NCAA Championships (March 6-9), placed 27th in the 200 IM and was named an All-American in the 200 breaststroke finishing in seventh place.
2011-12: Lettered for the first time. Won the 400 medley relay at St. Cloud/Minnesota-Moorhead also took third in the 400 medley and 200 butterfly and fourth in the 50 and 100 butterfly events. Had four second place finishes at Grand Valley in the 400 relay, 200 medley, and the 100 and 200 butterflies. Took second in the 200 butterfly at Hillsdale. Finished fifth at the Calvin Invite in the 100 butterfly. Won the 200 breaststroke and second in the 200 medley at the UW-Oshkosh. At the GLIAC Championship finished fourth in the 400 medley, fifth in the 400 medley relay, seventh in the 100 and 200 butterfly events and eighth in the 200 freestyle relay.
High School: Lettered four times at Charles M. Russell High School under Ed McNamee. Swam the 50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 butterfly, 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay. Received the coach’s award (2008), most improved (2009) and was team captain (2011). Individual state titles in 100 butterfly (2010), 200 freestyle (2009), 200 freestyle relay (2010) and 200 medley relay (2010). Team was state champions from 2008-2011. Swam for Falls Aquatic Swim Team under Marla Hauser and Erica Hickey. Also participated in track. Member of the National Honor Society and Key Club.
Personal: Likes horseback riding, hunting, hiking and floating on the river. Majoring in biochemistry. Daughter of Dawn and Bob Sechena. Sister Dakota is also a member of NMU’s swimming team. Born March 14, 1993.
