PREVIEW: Alpine Ski Aim to Maintain Form at Giants Ridge

The 'Cats will battle extremely low temperatures in northern Minnesota

MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The NMU alpine ski teams continue the 2026 campaign this weekend at USCSA Giants Ridge.

USCSA Giants Ridge will run from Saturday, January 24, to Sunday, January 25. The races are scheduled to run tentatively from 9 a.m. ET to 5 p.m. ET for both runs on both days. Live results will be housed at Live-timing.com.

The Wildcats travel nearly six hours west to Biwabik, Minnesota, where the 'Cats will not only be battling its conference competition, but also dealing with extremely low temperatures.

At the time of writing, the National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Watch. Temperatures will see a high of -8 and a low of -30 on Saturday, and a projected high of -5 and a low of -25 on Sunday, with 12-15 mph winds on both days.

The Wildcats will look to maintain its solid form from last weekend, where the men's and women's teams combined for 11 of a possible 12 podiums in both events en route to winning both the giant slalom and slalom.

The women swept both podiums, led by Tommie Springer's back-to-back golds, silver and bronze from Ashley Schaffer, and medals from Maddy Stern and Onalee Wallis.

The men claimed five of a possible six podium spots, highlighted by sweeping the slalom from Kyan Hopke, Noah Bindas, and Cashton Jaeger, and silver and bronze in the giant slalom from Reed Heathman and Bindas.
