2025 Marquette Marathon Comes to a Close

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The 2025 Marquette Marathon, powered by NMU, has come to its conclusion.

Today saw over 1,200 runners take advantage of the perfect Upper Peninsula weather, including 460 racers for the marathon, 596 in the half marathon, 15 teams of three in the marathon relay, and 105 in the Wildcat 5K. 

One of the fastest marathons in the country, the Marquette Marathon qualified 116 racers for the Boston Marathon, broken into 57 men and 59 women. The complete results from every race can be found here.

Winning the 2025 Marquette Marathon and earning one of those BQ's was Jesse Greenhagen (M30-39, Mount Pleasant, Mich.), with a time of 2:34:59.2, just around five and a half minutes quicker than the next racer. Greenhagen was in second place through the 17.7 mile marker before leapfrogging Samuel Parlette (M30-39, White Lake, Mich.) at the 21 mile mark, and Greenhagen would eventually cross the line as the overall top finisher.

Grace Hayward (F20-29, Weston, MA) paced the female field, finishing as the first overall female with her time of 2:55:38.8. Similar to the men, Grace was behind Olivia Hayward (F20-29, Weston, MA) until the 17.7 mile marker, before Grace and Olivia swapped places, and the pair would finish one and two in the overall female category.

The full marathon saw over 30 race who hailed from the 'Queen City of the North', led by Erica Nelson (F30-39) as the first native to cross the line with her time of 3:12:19.2, the 3rd fastest in her age group,16th female, 80th overall, and earning a BQ. Shortly behind her was Jeff Nyquist (M40-49), the second Marquette native to cross the line, 14th fastest in his age group, 66th fastest male, 84th overall, and earning a BQ at 3:13:11.1. Andrew Lacombe (M30-39) rounded out the All-Marquette podium as the 28th fastest in his age group, 69th fastest male, and 89th overall with his time of 3:13:41.3.

The half marathon saw Ian Torchia (M20-29, Ann Arbor, Mich.)  cross the line first, posting a finish time of 1:04:20.2, seven minutes faster than second place. Torchia, an NCAA Champion and All-American nordic skiier for the Wildcats from 2014-2018, began the race ahead of the pack and never looked back, as he was first overall at every marker. When he crossed the finish line, Torchia set the Marquette Marathon course record for fastest male half-marathon.

Kameron Torchia (F20-29, Ann Arbor, Mich.) paced the female field, crossing the line at 1:18:21.9. Torchia, formerly Burmeister, was inducted into the NMU sports hall of fame in 2023 as a stand-out cross country and track and field athlete with multiple All-America honors. She was the first female to cross every marker, finishing three minutes faster than the next closest female. The third place female, Shayla Manitowabi, is also an NMU alum and also a track & field All-American. 

The half marathon saw over 50 racers who hailed from Marquette, led by Beepsee Teeple (M0-19), who finished first in his age group with a time of 1:14:25.8, just 0.1 seconds out of third place overall. Joshua Ingber (M40-49) and Kyle James (F30-39) finished one after another to round out the All-Marquette podium, crossing the line at 1:38:35.9 and 1:38:44.4, respectively.
