Kraftson 23rd, Wildcats 11th in 7.5k at NCAA Championships

HANOVER, NH. - The NMU men's nordic ski team completed day one of this year's NCAA Championships, with Adrik Kraftson leading the way in the 7.5k classic.

Kraftson began his race at 12:13.00 PM, finishing 23rd with his time of 23:13.1 to earn his team eight points. Kristoffer Karsrud went out just two minutes later, would eventually finish 28th to earn three team points with his time of 23:44.4. Luke Fricker rounded out the Wildcat competitors, finishing 37th with his time of 25:11.1.

Of CCSA skiers, it was Colin Freed of Michigan Tech who finished first, finishing 20th and earning 11 team points with his time of 23:04.4. Kraftson and Karsrud were the second and third conference skiers to cross the line. Chase High of College of Saint Scholastica was the fourth CCSA skier at 32nd, followed by Tryg Solberg of Michigan Tech and Fricker in 36th and 37th, respectively.

40 individuals from 17 different institutions raced the course, led by the top time of John Hagenbuch (20:52.8) from the host university of Dartmouth. Finn Sweet (21:08.1) of Vermont was second, and Joe Davies (21:19.5) from Utah was third.

Among CCSA schools, the Wildcats and Huskies tied for 11th with 11 points each, with Saint Scholastica not recording any team points. Dartmouth posted a healthy lead with 93 points, followed by Utah (84) in second and Colorado University (64) in third.

The Wildcats now look to Saturday, March 8, when they compete in the 20k mass start. Teams begin at 10 a.m. ET.
