Dybwad and Nilssen finish Top 20 in 10k Freestyle

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - The NMU women's nordic ski team opened its week at the SuperTour Finals with the 10 km Individual Start Freestyle, placing a pair of skiers in the top 20.

Victoria Dybwad finished 19th with a time of 27:41.1, followed by teammate Henriette Nilssen in 20th with her time of 28:01.2. Jordan Parent finished 39th overall with her time of 31:23.4, and Merle Richter DNS. A full list of live results from today can be found here

Nilssen claimed one point today and leads the team in SuperTour points with 35, ranking 32nd overall. Dybwad scored her first two SuperTour points of the season, and Parent remained at one point. The full SuperTour standings can be found here.

Skiers raced a 4810 meter course that has a 94 meter height difference, 46 meter maximum climb, and 182 meters of total climb throughout the race. That course map can be found here.

Dybwad's first marker time of 3:43.6 was the eighth fastest time in the first 1.25k, dropped to 15th after her 2.5k time of 7:20.4, and would stay in the 15/16 time slot until dropping to 18th at 8.75k (25:02.3) before finishing 19th, 2:27.1 behind the first place finisher. Dybwad finishd 19th overall, 11th among skiers 23 or younger, and 9th among collegiate athletes.

Nilssen stayed right around the 20th spot all race; her first 1.25k saw her in 21st (3:57.2), was in 19th at the 6.25k marker (18:00.6), with the five other markers having her in the 20th fastest time before finishing in that same spot, 2:41.2 behind the leader. Nilssen finished 20th overall, 12th among skiers 23 or younger, and 10th among collegiate athletes.

Parent posted a first marker time of 4:03.7, 27th fastest among the field. Parent dropped to 37th at the 2.5k mark (8:15.6), dropped to 40th at the 3.75k mark (12:02.2), before moving up to 39th at the following marker, and finishing in 39th the rest of the way, 6:03.4 behind the leader. 

Lucinda Anderson (Sr) of Team Birkie won with her time of 25:20.0, followed by Erica Laven (U23) of the University of Utah at 25:42.0, and Lilliane Gagnon (U23) of Centre Nationale d'entraînement Pierre-Harvey. Anderson is a member of the U.S. Biathalon Team for the Biathlon World Championships, Laven most recently won a gold medal in the 15k freestyle at the NCAA Championships, and Gagnon recently won a bronze medal for team Canada at FIS Nordic Junior and U23 World Ski Championships.
