Fricker Leads Wildcats in 10k Freestyle at SuperTour Finals

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. - The NMU men's nordic ski team opened its week at the SuperTour Finals with the 10 km Individual Start Freestyle, with all four athletes finishing within 10 spots of eachother.

There was a total field of 85 skiers who raced from both professional and collegiate programs, four of those in the Green and Gold. Luke Fricker was the first Wildcat on the leader board, finishing 48th overall with his time of 24:55.0. Adrik Kraftson was next in 54th at 25:10.2, followed by Kristoffer Karsrud in 56th at 25:17.1 and Jonathan Clarke in 57th at 25:23.2. The full list of live results can be found here.

None of the 'Cats claimed any SuperTour points with their finishes today. Karsrud leads the team and is 23rd overall with 48, Fricker is second on the team and 39th overall with 23, Kraftson is third on the team and 65th overall with seven, and Clarke is fourth on the team and 74th overall with three points. Skiers raced a 4810 meter course that has a 94 meter height difference, 46 meter maximum climb, and 182 meters of total climb throughout the race. That course map can be found here.

Fricker opened his race with the 49th fastest time (3:26.3) at the 1.25k marker before moving up to 39th (9:29.8) by the 3.75k marker. Fricker then slid down spots after each following marker before ultimately finishing in 48th, 3:08.8 off of first place. Fricker finished 17th among collegiate skiers and 28th among athletes under 23. 

Kraftson posted the 37th fastest time (3:22.2) in his opening lap, but would fall to 56th (12:12.8) by the halfway marker. Kraftson moved up to 51st by the next marker, before sliding down a few spots again, ultimately landing at 54th overall and 3:24.0 behind first. Kraftson was 19th among collegiate skiers and 32nd among athletes under 23. 

Two spots back of Kraftson was Karsrud in 56th. Karsrud got off to a fast start, the 33rd fastest 1.25k marker time (3:21.1) before sliding to the 52nd fastest time in the following marker (6:38.2) and staying around that mark until crossing the finish. Immediately behind Karsrud was Clarke in 57th, who fluctuated anywhere from 53rd to 61st before landing at 57th when it was all said and done. 

John Hagenbuch (SR) of the Dartmouth Ski Team finished first with a time of 21:46.2, followed by Joe Davies (SR) of the University of Utah in second at 22:23.7, and Graham Houtsma (SR) of the BSF Pro Team in third at 22:30.1. Hagenbuch recently won gold in the 7.5k at this seasons NCAA Championships, Davies won gold in the 20k freestyle at the same NCAA Championship.
