KENOSHA, Wis. - The Northern Michigan cross country team competed in the Lucian Rosa Invite in Wisconsin on Saturday, the race that marks the halfway point of the regular season schedule. Five Wildcats earned top-25 finishes to lead the Green and Gold effort.
Dani VanLente was first for Northern in a career-best time of 22:45.3 for 9th place.
Gianna Hoving followed to make it two Wildcats in the top-10, crossing the finish line at 22:57.3.
Sophomores
Lamar Gordon (23:22.2) and
Emma Sweeney (23:22.8) finished together, taking 17th and 18th place. Freshman
Celia Wallace also clocked in with a top-25 finish, taking 21st in a time of 23:27.7.
Six more Wildcats ran a sub-24 minute race and placed inside the top-40:
Beverly Harper (28th - 23:41.9),
Skylar Grubb (30th - 23:47.1),
Elliott Smith (31st - 23:48.0),
Sophia Potter (34th - 23:51.9),
Brooke Lemos (36th - 23:55.5), and
Anya VanSweden (37th - 23:56.2).
The Wildcats took 4th of 10 teams at 72 points. Winona State won the meet with 35 points, getting three top-5 finishes including Sophia Taarud winning with a time of 21:35.2 and teammate McKenna Taylor taking second at 21:57.4.
