DULUTH, Minn. - The NMU men's nordic ski team wrapped up day two of the SuperTour Finals with the Classic Sprint led by
Kristoffer Karsrud, the only collegiate athlete to make it to the final heat.
Karsrud found his way to the finals after finishing narrowly behind ex NMU athlete and now professional skier Zak Ketterson in the quarter finals with his time of 2:54.94, requiring a photo-finish to determine Ketterson was ahead of Karsrud by .06 seconds. Karsrud was third in his semi-final heat with his time of 2:52.62, fast enough to earn him a 'Lucky Loser' bid to the finals. The only collegiate athlete in the finals, Karsrud posted a time of 3:00.12 to finish sixth, four second behind Ketterson in fourth.
Mathias Haugen made it to the semi finals with his quarter final heat second-place finish with a time of 2:53.54. Haugen was in the same semi final heat as Karsrud, where he posted a time of 2:55.26 to finish fifth. Karsrud and Haugen were two of three collegiate athletes in the semi-finals.
Luke Fricker, the only collegiate athlete in his quarter final heat, finished fourth with a time of 2:58.94.
Jonathan Clarke claimed bronze in the men's Junior U20 finals heat with his time of 3:09.83. Clarke made it to the finals after a photo-finish third in his heat semi final heat with a time of 3:07.50, .05 seconds off of second place to earn a 'Lucky Loser' bid to the finals.
