HOUGHTON, Mich. - The NMU men's nordic ski team wrapped up competition at the NCAA Central Regional Championships from Houghton, Michigan, where
Kristoffer Karsrud and
Luke Fricker claimed silver and bronze in the 20km interval start.
Originally scheduled as a mass start event, the race was shifted to the interval start format due to the lack of snow.
Karsrud posted lap times of 13:23.6, 27:45.4, and 42:22.1, before crossing the finish line with a time of 57:17.1, only behind Skylar Patten of Michigan Tech with a time of 56:20.0 on his home course. Karsrud, second after lap one and third after laps two and three, climbed back up one spot to second in his final lap.
Fricker followed up his silver medal yesterday with bronze today, posting lap times of 13:37.8, 27:43.4, and 42:20.3, before crossing the line with his time of 57:24.1. Fricker started his first lap with the fifth fastest time before jumping to second place by laps two and three. His teammate, Karsrud, ultimately passed him, and Fricker finished in third place to round out the podium.
Hendrik Peterson was the next Wildcat, crossing the finish line in sixth place with a time of 58:25.5. Peterson moved up with each lap, as he started in ninth before climbing one spot with each 5k to finish sixth.
Mathias Haugen rounded out the top 10 with his time of 1:00:09.9, followed by
Jonathan Clarke in 13th and
Cooper Lennox in 29th.
