Men's Nordic Concludes Gitchi Gami Games with Mass Start 20km

CABLE, Wisc. - The men's nordic ski team completed its week trip to Cable, Wisconsin in the Classic Mass Start 20km from the Gitchi Gami Games.

It was Adrik Kraftson who crossed the line first for the Wildcats, finishing second among Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) athletes, sixth among collegiate and under 23 athletes, and 15th overall. Kraftson opened his race with a first lap of 7:17.3, the 29th fastest opening lap, before turning in times of 15:34.2 (8:16.9) and 24:01.0 (8:26.8) to move up 14 spots to finish 15th.

Luke Fricker and Jonathan Clarke finished one after another, placing third and fourth among CCSA skiers and 18th and 19th overall with times of 52:01.6 and 52:34.1. Fricker turned in lap times of 7:08.9, 15:30.7 (8:21.8), and 24:06.2 (8:35.5), while Clarke posted laps of 7:11.7, 15:56.1 (8:44.4), 24:41.4 (8:45.3).

Hendrik Peterson rounded out NMU with his time of 57:48.5, posting time's of 7:26.0, 16:57.9 (9:31.9), and 27:11.9 (10:14.0) on his laps.

Day Three - Freestyle 10km
Luke Fricker was first to cross the line for the 'Cats, finishing ninth among collegiate athletes, 13th among athletes under 23, and 26th overall. Fricker turned in a total time of 23:13.4, with lap markers of 7:16.6, 15:02.0 (7:45.4), and 22:49.4 (7:47.4).

Next across was Adrik Kraftson, 12th collegiately, 17th among athletes under 23, and 33rd overall. Kraftson's lap times consisted of a 7:16.1 to start, 15:10.9 (7:54.8) at the second, and a final lap of 23:01.6 (7:50.7).

Right behind him was teammate Jonathan Clarke, who finished 14th collegiately, 19th among under 23 athletes, and 35th overall. Clarke started the fastest among the 'Cats with his time of 7:14.7 on lap one before turning in times of 15:09.6 (7:54.9) and 23:07.3 (7:57.7).

Rounding out NMU was Hendrik Peterson, finishing 17th collegiately, 23rd among under 23 athletes, and 44th overall. Peterson posted lap times of 7:16.5, 15:16.3 (7:59.8), and 23:19.8 (8:03.5).

Day Two - Classic Sprint
Luke Fricker made it to the quarterfinals, finishing 5th in his heat with a time of 3:01.75. He qualified with a time of 3:03.63, the 29th fastest overall and 11th fastest time among U23 competitors.

Jonathan Clarke posted a 3:10.09, Hendrik Peterson a 3:12.73, and Adrik Kraftson a 3:26.24.
 
Day One - Freestyle Sprint
Luke Fricker posted a 2:44.89 in his quarterfinal heat, falling just short of advancing as just one of eight collegaite athletes in the quarterfinals. Fricker qualified with his time of 2:47.99, 18th overall and eight among athletes under 23.

Hendrik Peterson posted a time of 2:58.95 to finish 41st, and both Jonathan Clarke and Adrik Kraftson DNS.
