KENOSHA, Wis. - The Northern Michigan track & field team garnered ten first place finishes at the Lake Michigan Open on Saturday, with six coming on the track and four from the field.
After an impressive cross country season,
Madi Szymanski hit a NCAA provisional mark in the 3000m to highlight the dominant afternoon. Northern took first place of six, totaling 185.5 points. Parkside took second with 129.Â
On the Track
Madi Szymanski dominated the distance race of 3000m, winning with a time of 9:54.94, nearly 50 seconds better than anyone else in the field. The time was good enough for an NCAA provisional mark, which currently sits at 14th in the country.
Talon Prusi finished third in the race with a time of 10:53.08.
Beverly Harper won the 400m dash as she was the only one to cross the finish line in less than a minute (59.68).Â
Freshman
Sofi Diop won the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.53 seconds. In the 55m dash, another freshman,
Baux Truckey, claimed victory with a time of 7.33.
Jahtivya Williams took third at 7.41.Â
Two more freshmen,
Petra Foote and
Isabella Beck, went first and second in the 800m run. Foote finished in a time of 2:33.23 and Beck was right behind at 2:36.55.Â
In the 200m dash,
Ciara Ostrenga crossed the finish line in second place with a time of 27.43.Â
The final event of the day was the 4x400m relay. The team of
Jahtivya Williams Ciara Ostrenga Lana Mac Paige Anderson took first place for the 10th top finish for Northern. They had a time of 4:02.98.
In the Field
Riley Barlage (14.6m) and Alizbeth Little (13.96m) finished one-two for the Wildcats in the weight throw. NMU would also pick up a first-place finish in another throwing event, the shot put, where
Adelyn Sanders hit 11.03m for first. Little took third in the event after throwing 10.61m.Â
NMU would also go first and second in the pole vault, with
Leah Root reaching a 3.35m mark followed by Kati Smith hitting a mark of 3.2m. Rebecca Lane wasn't far off with a fourth-place finish. Â Root wouldn't be done atop the podium, as her 10.92m in the triple jump was another top score.Â

The Wildcats will head to Lower Michigan to take part in the annual Jet's Pizza Invite on Friday and Saturday, January 26-27. The meet is hosted by Saginaw Valley State.Â
