OSHKOSH, Wis. - The Northern Michigan Indoor Track & Field team began its season at the UW Oshkosh Early Bird Open on Saturday, as
Leah Root had two victories in the field, and two freshmen and a sophomore took top honors on the track in their respective events.
The Wildcats went one-two in the 60m dash, with freshman
Baux Truckey edging sophomore teammate
Jahtivya Williams. The two finished at 7.92 and 7.94, respectively.Â
Another victory for the Green and Gold came in the mile, as
Beverly Harper finished with a time of 5:33.97, rallying from third place at the final split for the victory.Â
Ciara Ostrenga ran to a runner-up finish in the 400m, crossing the finish line at 1:00.24.Â
With three Wildcats racing alone in the 60m hurdles,
Sofi Diop finished at 9.12,
Ahna Larson at 9.62, and
Sydney Romps at 9.85. Diop added a second place finish in the long jump to go along with her 60m hurdle win, jumping a distance of 5.45m. Â
In the pole vault,
Leah Root emerged victorious with a mark of 3.50m. Right behind her was Kati Smith for second place, reaching 3.35m. Root added another win in the triple jump, hitting a mark of 11.12m.Â
In the 4x400 relay, Northern took second and third. The team of
Baux Truckey,
Jahtivya Williams,
Lana Mac,
Eva Zonca finished at 4:15.11 while
Natalie Pisoke,
Ahna Larson,
Sydney Romps,
Amelia Kashian finished at 4:18.96.Â
Emme Burrough (60m),
Lana Mac (Mile),
Talon Prusi (3000m) added fourth place finishes on the day for Northern Michigan.Â
