MARQUETTE, Mich. - In the first-ever wrestling match hosted by the NMU women's wrestling team, the Wildcats defeated Lakeland University 38-1 in the first dual and 30-10 in the second dual to claim victory at the Superior Dome.
In the first dual, the Wildcats dominated 38-1, giving up only one technical point to Lakeland.
Diana Dzasezeva, the 5th-ranked wrestler in her class, got it going for the 'Cats, besting Emily Landolf in the 136 weight class in a matter of seconds. In the 143 class,
Marisa Roth took down Emily Garcia.
Noelle Gaffney continued the wins for NMU in the 155, topping Olga Turiy.
Lydia Krauss (170) and Teni Ajayi (191) each added wins for NMU for a five-for-five first dual sweep.
In the second set of duals,
Diana Dzasezeva and
Noelle Gaffney each picked up their second win of the day.
Kristyleigh Massey grabbed another win in the 155 class over Emily Garcia. For the Lakeland Muskies, Olga Turiy and Niyasia McCampbell got a pair of victories.
