Mathew Hoard Inducted Into NMU Sports Hall of Fame

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University athletic department is excited to announce they will be inducting 6 individual athletes and the 1978-79 Wrestling team into the NMU Sports Hall of Fame. 

Matt Hoard was a standout football player for the Northern Michigan Wildcats from 1993 to 1996. He was the starting quarterback in 1995 and 1996 when the Wildcats finished 7-3 in each season. 

In 1995, Matt completed 180 of 321 passes for 2,159 yards. During the 1996 season, he completed 175 of 335 attempts for 2,482 yards and was selected the Michigan Intercollegiate Football Conference Offensive Back of the Year, MIFC Player of the Year, and National Football Foundation NCAA Division II Player of the Year. In 1995 and 1996, Matt also earned First Team All-MIFC Academic. 

Matt graduated in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in biology/physiology. He went on to complete a degree in physical therapy at the University of Michigan-Flint in 2001. 

Today, he is the long-term care rehabilitation director at HealthSource Saginaw, a facility that provides behavioral medicine and medical rehabilitation services, as well as skilled and extended long-term care.  He is a physical therapist specializing in physical treatment to help a patient reduce pain, restore mobility, rehabilitate an injury or increase movement and overall function.  He is a brain injury specialist who holds certifications in neurodevelopmental treatment (NDT), which is a hands-on treatment approach used by physical therapists and other healthcare providers, and for LSVT Global's BIG program, which is an intensive, one-on-one treatment created to help people with Parkinson's disease and other neurological conditions address walking issues. 

He and his family reside in Frankenmuth, Michigan.
