COLERAINE, Minn.— The Wildcats took the road to Coleraine, Minn. for a two-day-long competition full of success. Three 'Cats were placed on the podium on both days of the competition. The Wildcats raced in near-zero degree temperatures but that did not slow them down.

Men's Freestyle and Classic Sprint

During Saturday's event Senior Kjetil Baanerud (Oslo, Norway) raced in the 15k with a time of 37:59.52, he placed first. On top of his success Saturday, Baanerud saw the podium again during Sunday's 10k race. He took second with a time of 27:28.9, was only 0.2 seconds behind the first place skier. 

Alongside Baanerud, Redshirt Freshman Kristoffer Karsrud (Raufoss, Norway) made it on the podium for the first time as a Wildcat. He placed second in the 15k race with a time of 39:02.76. After his first time on the podium Saturday, he found himself on the podium for a second time during Sunday's race. Coming in 0.5 seconds behind his teammate, he placed third with a time of 27:29.4.

Three more 'Cats found success in Saturday's 15k race. Daniel Streinz (Hersey, Maine) placed fifth with a time of 39:29.07. Right behind him, placing sixth was Xavier Mansfield (Minneapolis, Minn.) with a time of 39: 37.25. In 10th was Tobias Moosmann (Kossen, Austria) finishing his race with a time of 40:10.21.

Sunday's race also had multiple 'Cats in the top 10. Streinz placed fifth again, timing in at 28:07.3 and Moosmann finished in seventh place with a time of 28:31.2.

Women's Freestyle and Classic Sprint

The women competed in a 10k race on Saturday. Redshirt Freshman Merle Richter (Sayda, Germany) was another Wildcat to place on the podium for the first time. On Saturday, she took third with a time of 31:07.55. Following her success on the first day, she grabbed another podium spot on Sunday. She placed third in the 7.5k race, finishing with a time of 23:22.9.

Two other competing 'Cats found a place in the top 10 for the 10k race on Saturday. Ranked fifth was Senior Katerina Hyncicova (Liberec, Czech Republic), timing in at 31:58.86. Coming in just two seconds behind her was Pearl Harvey (Heber, Utah). She took sixth with a time of 32:00.79.

Sunday's race held two other Wildcats in the top 10. Senior Hilde Eide (Beitostoelen, Norway) snagged a fifth place spot with a time of 23:50.7. Finishing just behind her with a time of 23:52.6 and placing sixth was Katerina Hyncicova.

Next up for the Nordic Ski team is the CCSA MTU Invite in Houghton, Michigan. On Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, the 'Cats will race in respective 15/10k races. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022, the teams will compete in classic sprints.
