Women’s Wrestling Competes in Inaugural Open

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The Northern Michigan University women's wrestling team opened its inaugural season at the Pointer Open hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on Saturday.  

No team scores were awarded at the meet.
 
Kaitlyn Bryant had the best showing on the Wildcat team as the freshman took third overall in the 155 bracket. She won her first match with a 10-0 tech fall before falling in the quarterfinal.

Bryant entered the consolation bracket and won by a fall in 00:49 in the first match of that bracket. A forfeit and a 8-0 win by decision placed her in the third-place match. She took third with a win by fall in 1:30.
 
Danielle Lopez was sixth in the 143 bracket. The freshman won by fall in her first meet in 1:14. She then dropped the final three meets with two losses by fall and one tech fall.
 
Freshman Bryn Sandhu also participated for the 'Cats. She had two losses by fall.
 
A trip to the Adrian Women's Open on Nov. 14 is next for the NMU team. The event is set to begin at 11:00 a.m. in Adrian, Mich.
