GREENSBORO, N.C. – The NCAA Championships continued for the Northern Michigan University Swim & Dive team, seeing four All-Americans and six Honorary All-Americans on Day two.
The men's 400-yard medley relay team of junior Renars Bundzis (Riga, Latvia/Riga Secondary School), junior Arnoldo Herrera (Heredia, Costa Rica/Saint Jude), junior Ryan Leonard (South Wales, Australia/Toronto) and sophomore Lajos Budai (Kecskemet, Hungary/Bolyai Janos) finished in eighth place and earned each member All-American honors. The team finished in a time of 3:18.40.
In individual action, Leonard was named an Honorary All-American by posting a time of 3:58.73 to place 14th in the men's 400-yard individual medley.
On the women's side, junior Regan Kilburn (Muscatine, Iowa), junior Dana Stroven (Howell, Mich./Hartland), sophomore Rachel Helm (Newcastle, England/Burnside College), and freshman Lena Soulas (London, England/Woodhouse College) earned Honorary All-American status with a 14th place finish in the 400-yard medley relay. The group posted a time of 3:46.38.
Junior Charlie Pavlak (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) earned Honorary All-American recognition by taking 16th in the men's one-meter dive, posting a total score of 398.40.
The day started with the women's 200-yard freestyle relay squad of Soulas, freshman Margaret Vaitkus (Munster, Ind.), Kilburn and Helm clocking in at 1:35.14.
Freshman Gabriella Spajic (New South Wales, Australia/De La Salle Catholic College Cronulla) then posted a time of 4:30.31 in the women's 400-yard individual medley. Helm competed in the women's 100-yard butterfly and finished in 56.48.
Grantas Dapkus (Kaunas, Lithuania/Kaunas Saule) placed 23rd in a time of 1:38.93, and Budai touched in 1:41.02 in the men's 200-yard freestyle.
Soulas rounded out the day's results with a 1:53.51 in the women's 200 free.
Overall, the women's team is now 16th place while the men's team has moved up to 18th place after two days of the meet.
NMU continues the NCAA Championship Friday and competes in the men's 500-yard freestyle, the 100-yard backstroke, women's 100-yard breaststroke, the 200-yard butterfly, the one-meter dive and the 800-yard freestyle relay. The preliminary races begin at 10 a.m. with the finals starting at 6 p.m.
