Volleyball Beats Missouri S&T To Finish Crossover Undefeated; Autumn Monsma Earns All Tournament Team

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Northern Michigan University Volleyball finished the Midwest Region Conference Crossover undefeated after defeating Missouri University Science & Technology 3-0 in their final match of the weekend.

 SET SCORES

Missouri S&T scored first, but NMU rallied back to lead 12-3 and cruised to a 25-15 first set win. In the second set, the Wildcats jumped out 4-0 and kept a small lead throughout the set to win 25-22.

The third set saw the Miners jump out early but NMU rebounded and eventually tied the match at 14-14. Eventually, the Wildcats took a lead and won the match 25-23.

  OFFENSIVE LEADERS

Senior Maggie Liebeck (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg-Casco) paced the offense with 13 kills. Senior Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.) chipped in with 10. Senior Jessica Skonning (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) and junior Sarah Kuehn (Green Bay, Wis./De Pere) both posted seven.

Senior Lynzi Svoboda (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest) finished the match with 35 assists.

Monsma also chipped into the effort with a team-best three aces.

  ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM

Monsma was named to the Crossover All Tournament Team. Over the weekend, Monsma finished with 45 total kills to lead the Wildcats, hitting at a .318 clip. She was second on the team with 28 digs and added seven block assists. She also finished with three aces.

  DEFENSIVE LEADERS

Senior Rachel Braunschweig (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley) led the defense with 13 digs. Svoboda added nine digs while Monsma and freshman Alli Yacko (Oak Lawn, ill.) both notched seven digs.

Monsma also aided the defense with four block assists while Kuehn and sophomore Cierra Martinez (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) both had three.

  UP NEXT

NMU improves to 14-8 on the season while Missouri S&T fell to 13-10. The Wildcats will now return to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action as they host Saginaw Valley State University Friday night and Lake Superior State University for Senior Day Saturday.
