Volleyball Visits Parkside and Purdue Northwest This Weekend

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University Volleyball continues their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road schedule this weekend as they travel to the central time zone to take on University of Wisconsin-Parkside Friday night and Purdue University Northwest Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Leticia Antunes (Florianopolis, Brazil/Colegio Ofelia Fonseca) is ranked 38th in the Division II volleyball rankings for attacks and is leading the NMU offense. For the season, Antunes has notched 208 kills on 681 attempts. Her average of 3.25 kills per set puts her sixth among the league's hitters.  The sophomore has also added 10 aces to aid the offense.

On defense, Antunes has tallied 226 digs for second most on the team.


Senior Lynzi Svoboda (Minneapolis, Minn./Minneapolis Southwest) is making a mark during her last season at NMU as she is ranked 49th nationally with 628 assists. She is averaging 9.81 assists per set to place her fifth in the conference rankings. The setter has 60 kills so far this year and has added 131 digs.

  1000 DIG CLUB

Senior Rachel Braunschweig (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley) Braunschweig hits 1000 digs in her career at NMU last weekend at Wayne State, making her the 16th player in NMU history to do so.  Senior Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.) follows not far behind with 972 averaging 2.47 per set, looking to join the 1000 dig club soon.

Braunschweig paces the defense with 241 digs while Monsma is third with 188. Monsma has already achieved the 100 aces in a career milestone.


Junior Sarah Kuehn (Green Bay, Wis./De Pere) continues to be a threat when she attacks as she is third in the GLIAC rankings for hitting percentage. The middle blocker is hitting at a .325 clip and is third on the team with 172 kills this year. 

Defensively, she is third in the GLIAC with 57 block assists.


NMU will take on Parkside for the first time in program history on Friday night.  The Rangers come into Friday's match 4-14 this year and 2-7 in conference play.


The Wildcats defeated the Pride 3-0 last season in the first-ever matchup between the programs.  PNW enters this weekend off a 3-0 sweep over University of St. Francis Tuesday evening and are now 2-16 on the season and seeking their first win of the GLIAC season.
