BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University Volleyball Team fell to Michigan Technological University 3-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals Saturday evening.
Michigan Tech captured the first set 25-22, but NMU responded with a 25-16 victory in the second set. The Huskies then went on to win the third set 25-20 and the fourth set 25-21.
Senior Jami Hogeboom (Grand Haven, Mich.) posted 31 assists on the day.
Defensively, junior Rachel Braunschweig (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley/Cape Fear CC) tallied a team-best 20 digs while Antunes notched 16 and Hogeboom added 10. At the net, senior Kayla Chosa (Wrightstown, Wis.) finished with a total of five blocks. Redshirt sophomore Sarah Kuehn (Green Bay, Wis./De Pere), Whitehead and Hogeboom chipped in with three blocks each.
The Wildcats made their first appearance in the GLIAC Semifinals since the 2013 season and fall to 21-8 overall, 12-4 in the GLIAC with the defeat. NMU entered the week ranked eighth in the Midwest Region, and now waits to find out their postseason fortune as the top eight teams enter the NCAA Midwest Region Quarterfinals.
