AURORA, Ill. -- Northern Michigan University scored 11 aces to help guide them to a 3-0 sweep over Walsh University in their second match of the Midwest Region Crossover Friday.
The Wildcats overwhelmed Walsh, not allowing more than 19 points in a set. NMU won the first set 25-13 then followed it with a 25-19 victory. The third set saw the Wildcats claim a 25-10 win to capture the sweep.
Senior Jami Hogeboom (Grand Haven, Mich.) led the way with three aces and 31 assists. Freshman Leticia Antunes (Florianopolis, Brazil/Colegio Ofelia Fonseca), sophomore Gabriela Martinez (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista/Puerto Rico, Río Piedras), and junior Jessica Skonning (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) each added two aces. Juniors Autumn Monsma (Grand Haven, Mich.) and Rachel Braunschweig (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley/Cape Fear CC) chipped in with one each.
Senior Madison Whitehead (Altoona, Wisc.) finished the night with a team-high 13 kills. She also added two block assists and a solo block.
Antunes posted 10 kills and led the team with 12 digs. She has now reached double figures in kills and digs in four of the last five matches.
Redshirt sophomore Sarah Kuehn (Green Bay, Wisc./De Pere) aided the effort with eight kills and three block assists.
Monsma chipped in to the defensive effort with eight digs while Braunschweig tallied seven.
With the win, the Wildcats improved to 13-6 on the season while Walsh fell to 15-5. NMU will conclude the Midwest Region Crossover Saturday as they take on McKendree University.
