AUSTIN, Texas – Shayla Huebner (Marquette, Mich.) was selected to the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic First Team All-America Division II Women's Track/Cross Country team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Huebner graduated from NMU with a 3.93 grade point average and a degree in Sports Science. On the track, she culminated her career with a seventh-place finish in the 800-Meter Run to earn First Team All-American honors. In the Indoor season, Huebner placed sixth in the 800 and was also a First Team All-American. She also holds the Indoor and Outdoor 800-Meter Run school records.
This year, Huebner earned a total of four nominations to the 2019 NCAA DII Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Midwest Region teams. In addition to earning All-Region status in the 800, she was also a member of the team's 4x400-Meter Relay which also earned All-Region distinction.
After the Indoor season, Huebner was named a recipient of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference Commissioner's Award for the second-straight year. The recent graduate was also previously on the GLIAC's All-Academic Excellence Team for each season this year, as well as earning Google Cloud Academic All-District 4 Track & Field/Cross Country Team.
Huebner is one of 16 student-athletes across the country to earn First Team honors, with the 16 holding a composite 3.93 GPA and she is one of two athletes from the GLIAC. This is her second CoSIDA All-Academic honor after earning Third Team All-Academic last season. The last First Team All-Academic selection for NMU was Men's Nordic Skier, Adam Martin, in 2016 and 2017. The Wildcats have earned 24 total All-Academic Team honors and First Team recognition seven times.
