Huebner Finishes 7th in 800 to Highlight Outdoor National Championships

KINGSVILLE, Texas -- Northern Michigan University Outdoor Track & Field sent three student-athletes to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.

Senior Shayla Huebner (Marquette, Mich.) highlighted the team's performance with her second All-American honor this year.

Huebner advanced to the 800-Meter Run finals after posting a time of 2:08.75 in Fridays preliminary races, breaking a school record in the process. She then finished in 2:11.41 to take seventh place in Saturday's final and was named a First Team All-American.  This is her second All-American award this year after she previously finished sixth at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships and earned All American honors as well. She finishes her career with a total of three All-American awards as she was a Second Team All-American at last year's National Championships.

Sophomore Izabelle Peterson (Marquette, Mich.) competed in two races in her first appearance at Nationals. She started the meet Wednesday by running the 100-Meter Dash in a time of 11.76 to finish in 14th place.  On Friday, the sophomore competed in the 200-Meter Dash and finished in 13th place when she crossed the line at 24.58.

Senior Michelle Juergen (Gau-Ordenheim, Germany) took part in the High Jump Friday. By clearing a height of five feet, six inches, she placed 11th. This was the second time this season that Juergan placed at the NCAA Nationals as she finished 10th at the Indoor National Championships. Both finishes gave her Second Team All-American status.

The 2019 season comes to a close for the Wildcats with the completion of the NCAA Division II National Championships.
