BAY CITY, Mich. -- Northern Michigan University Women's Track & Field senior Shayla Huebner (Marquette, Michigan) was named a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Commissioner Award recipient for the winter athletic season. Huebner was one of six female student-athletes across the league to be recognized with the award for their academic and athletic success.
The senior finished sixth at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, posting a time of 2:09.73, breaking her own school record to earn All-American honors. She was also a part of the 4x400 meter relay that finished 11th at the NCAA Championships.
She finished second at the GLIAC Championships and helped the relay break a school record to place second. Huebner can also be found on the USTFCCCA All-Region list as she earned distinction in both the 800 meter run and the 4x400 meter relay, earning All-Region honors for the second-straight year.
A sport science major, Huebner has a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average after the fall semester. Between track & field and cross country, Huebner has now been named to the GLIAC All-Academic Excellence team for each season she has been eligible.
This is the seventh Commissioners Award by the Wildcats in school history and first of the 2018-19 season. This is also Huebner's second Commissioner Award after winning the award during the winter season last year as well.
