Wildcats Get Two All-Americans At Track & Field Indoor Championships

PITTSBURGH, Kansas – Northern Michigan University Indoor Track & Field competed in the NCAA Indoor Championships and came away with two All-Americans and a relay just one spot shy of being named an All-American

  800M RUN

Senior Shayla Huebner (Marquette, Mich.) competed Friday in the 800 Meter Run preliminary race and posted a time of 2:10.13 to advance to the finals Saturday. During Saturday's final, the senior notched a time of 2:09.73, using a late kick to get sixth place and earn First Team All-American honors.


Senior Michelle Juergen (Gau-Odernheim, Germany) took part in the high jump Saturday. Juergen successfully cleared the first two heights, 5 feet 4 inches and then 5'6. By clearing 5'6, she finished 10th overall and was named Second Team All-American.


The team of junior Sydney McPeters (Sugarland, Texas), senior Lynsey Collins (Escanaba, Mich.), senior Paige Dutcher (Williamston, Mich.) and Huebner qualified for the 4x400 Meter Relay. The team finished one spot away from All-American status with an 11th place finish in a time of 3:47.32. The time was less than a second behind 10th place.


As a team, the Wildcats finished in a tie for 44th place with three points out of 92 teams who competed in the NCAA Championships.



NMU will enjoy a couple weeks away from competition before they move outdoors for the outdoor track & field season. The Wildcats will send some to the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University on March 29-30 while others will compete at the St. Norbert Quad Meet at St. Norbert's College.
