Wildcats Capture Six Victories at Jet’s Pizza Invite

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich.—Northern Michigan University Women's Track & Field competed at the Saginaw Valley State University Jet's Pizza Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Wildcats captured six individual crowns and 16 top-five finishes.


Sophomore Izabelle Peterson (Marquette, Michigan) captured a victory in the 60-meters with a time of 7.77 seconds. She recorded the best time in the preliminary heats before improving her time in the finals. Peterson also competed in the 200-meters where she finished second with a time of 25.25 seconds. Again, Peterson recorded the top time in the preliminary heats to advance to the finals.


Three Wildcats placed in the top-five of the 800-meters led by senior Shayla Huebner (Marquette, Michigan) who took the top spot. Huebner finished the event in 2:16.57 to capture the victory with junior Paige Du Bois (Green Bay, Wisconsin) and freshman Hannah Jones (Williamston, Michigan) placing fourth and fifth, respectively. Du Bois crossed the finish line in 2:18.44 while Jones finished with a time of 2:19.82.


Three Wildcats captured individual crowns in field events. Senior Michelle Juergen (Gau-Odernheim, Germany) won the high jump when she cleared five feet, 04.25 inches. In the triple jump, sophomore Dunja Drobac (Novi Sad, Serbia) cleated 37'00.25 to defeat the field. The final individual victory went to sophomore Lauren Alarie (Highland, Michigan) who won the long jump with a distance of 16'07.25"


The team of junior Sydney McPeters (Sugarland, Texas), Du Bois, senior Paige Dutcher (Williamston, Michigan), and Huebner took the top spot in the 4x400-meter relay. Their time of 3:53.01 also marked the second-fastest time in program history for the event.

The Wildcats will travel to Stevens Point, Wisconsin for the Pointer Invite next Saturday. The meet will be hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with field events beginning at 11:30 a.m. (EST) and running events beginning at noon (EST).
