MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University Women's Track & Field will travel to Grand Valley State University Friday and Saturday for the Al Owens Classic in what will be the final meet before the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
The Wildcats are ranked in the top-100 in the NCAA Division II in 10 different events including the 10,000-meter run where senior Kameron Burmeister (Menominee, Michigan) has the fourth-best time in the country. She improved her own school record at the Bison Outdoor Classic over the weekend with a time of 35 minutes, 13.41 seconds to earn an NCAA II provisional time.
A pair of Wildcats are ranked in the top-100 of the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Senior Vivian Hett (Burnsville, Michigan) ran the second-fastest time in school history in her first career appearance in the event over the weekend at the Golden Grizzly Invite. Her time of 11:04.95 is ranked 26th in the country, while sophomore Hanna Torvi (St. Paul, Minnesota) is ranked 80th with her time of 11:41.99.
Another two Wildcats are ranked in the top-100 of the 100-meter hurdles. Freshman Nina Augsten (Koenigsbronn, Germany) finished the event in 14.86 seconds over the weekend at the Golden Grizzly invite, while senior Ine Mylle (Zonnebeke, Belgium) has a season-best time of 14.92 seconds. Augsten currently ranks 85th in the NCAA II, while Mylle ranks 93rd.
NMU is ranked in the top-50 in two more events with the 4x400-meter relay team of sophomore Sydney McPeters (Sugarland, Texas), junior Lynsey Collins (Escanaba, Michigan), junior Paige Dutcher (Williamston, Michigan), and junior Shayla Huebner (Marquette, Michigan) being ranked 31st. In the triple jump, Mylle is ranked 32nd in country which she earned at the Raleigh Relays.
Other top marks for the Wildcats include senior Kieren Becker (Fowler, Michigan) ranked 56th in the1,500-meter run, sophomore Katelyn Smith (Gaylord, Michigan) ranked 61st in the 5,000-meters, Huebner ranked 67th in the 400-meters, junior Michelle Juergen (Gau-Odernheim, Germany) ranked 78th in the high jump, and Dutcher ranked 83rd in the 400-meters
The Al Owens Classic will begin Friday morning at 9 a.m. with select field events. The meet will resume Saturday with field and running events beginning at 9 a.m. The GLIAC Outdoor Championships will take place at Ashland University beginning May 2 before concluding on May 4.
