MARQUETTE, Mich.—Northern Michigan University Women's Track & Field will travel to a meet hosted by an NCAA Division I school for the third-consecutive week when they compete at the Golden Grizzly Invite hosted by Oakland University on Friday and Saturday. Additionally, a pair of Wildcats will travel to Bucknell University to compete in distance events at the Bison Outdoor Classic Saturday and Sunday.
The Wildcats competed at the Spartan Invite over the weekend hosted by Michigan State University. NMU earned seven victories at the meet against strong NCAA I and NCAA II competition in temperatures below freezing and strong winds.
NMU is ranked in the top-50 in the NCAA Division II for a pair of events including the 4x400-meter relay and triple jump. The Wildcats' top relay team of sophomore Sydney McPeters (Sugarland, Texas), junior Lynsey Collins (Escanaba, Michigan), junior Paige Dutcher (Williamston, Michigan), and junior Shayla Huebner (Marquette, Michigan) ranked 26th in the country after a time of three minutes, 52.58 at the Raleigh Relays. Senior Ine Mylle (Zonnebeke, Belgium) cleared 38 feet, five inches at the same meet to rank 25th in the NCAA II this season.
Six more Wildcats are ranked in the top-100 in their respective events highlighted by a pair of student-athletes who sit just outside the top-50. In the 1,500-meters, senior Kieren Becker (Fowler, Michigan) ranks 53rd after a finish of 4:39.12 at the Spartan Invite. Huebner is currently ranked 56th in the 800-meters with a time of 2:16.12 earned at the Raleigh Relays.
Other top marks for NMU include Dutcher ranked 65th in the 400-meters, junior Michelle Juergen (Gau-Odernheim, Germany) ranked 66th in the high jump, Mylle ranked 78th in the 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Hanna Torvi (St. Paul, Minnesota) ranked 88th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Collins ranked 98th in the 400-meter hurdles.
The Spartan Invite begins Friday afternoon with select events. Events will continue Saturday before concluding on Saturday evening. The meet will take place at the Oakland Track & Field Facility in Rochester, Michigan.
At the Bison Outdoor Classic, senior Kameron Burmeister (Menominee, Michigan) will make her outdoor debut when she competes in the 10,000-meter run. Sophomore Katelyn Smith (Gaylord, Michigan) will also compete at the meet, running in the 5,000-meters.
