Wildcat Track & Field Sets Four School Records at Last Chance Meets

MARQUETTE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan track & field team competed at a quartet of last-chance meets this week, setting four school records in the process.

"This group of athletes had some incredible performances this week," said head coach Jenny Ryan. "They all used each opportunity to have their last race or event be their best performance. Now, we wait to see how many of them will continue on to the NCAA Championships."

Kieren Becker broke her own school record in the 800-meter run at Thursday's Hillsdale Last-Chance Classic, clocking in at 2:09.97.

That same night, Kameron Burmeister (10,000-meter run, 35:47.98) and Samanthia Johnson (discus throw, 159-5) broke their own school records at the NCC Dr. Keeler Track Field Invitational.

Johnson again raised the bar in the discus throw at Friday's GVSU 2nd to Last Chance Meet, recording a distance of 162-3.

Jasmine Williams capped the record-setting weekend at Saturday's GVSU Last Chance Meet, breaking her own school record in the hammer throw with a 177-8 toss.

"We are so proud of Samanthia and Jasmine for everything they have accomplished during their careers at NMU," Ryan said.
