ALLENDALE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan track & field team posted seven top-10 finishes and advanced four athletes to the finals in five events at the GLIAC Outdoor Championships Thursday.
"We had a great start today at the GLIAC Championships on a cold and windy day," said head coach Jenny Ryan. "We have many athletes qualified for the finals and had some great results in the finals that took place today. Tomorrow will definitely be an exciting day."
Kameron Burmeister's performance in the 10,000-meter run was a highlight. With a time of 36:04.91, she took second and shaved nearly 12 seconds off her own school record, set at the Mt. SAC Relays (36:15.71) on April 13.
In her time as a Wildcat, Burmeister has captured three GLIAC medals. She raced to third-place finishes in the 10,000-meter run (37:10.44) at the 2016 outdoor championships and 5,000-meter run (17:08.59) at the 2017 indoor championships.
Kieren Becker shined during the preliminaries, advancing to the finals in the 800- and 1,500-meter runs. She took first (2:12.90) in the 800-meter run and second (4:44.32) in the 1,500-meter run.
The Wildcats are currently seventh in the team standings. Grand Valley State, Hillsdale and Findlay are the top-three teams.
