Wildcat Track & Field Wins Viking Olympics

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The Northern Michigan track & field team cruised to a first-place finish at the Viking Olympics, held Friday and Saturday.

Six Wildcats combined to win eight individual titles at the event. Avadon James and Samanthia Johnson each won two events.

The 4x800 relay team of Shayla Huebner, Kieren BeckerKelly Pietrzak and Hannah Lonergan took first with a time of 9:39.93. Becker and Huebner also captured individual crowns.

"This was our first outdoor meet with our full team, and it was a great start," said head coach Jenny Ryan. "I'm very happy with everyone's performances this early in the season."

Northern Michigan totaled 169 points to top 10 teams at the event, which was hosted by Augustana College (Ill.).

The Wildcats next race at the Rex Foster Invite on April 7.
