NMU Ninth At GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University track & field team placed ninth out of 16 teams and set two school records during the final day of competition at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday.

"We finished off the regular season with some great results and a very respectable finish in the strong GLIAC Conference," said NMU head coach Jenny Ryan. "We are very proud of what this team accomplished this year with our new coaching staff and we are excited about the years ahead."

NMU sophomore Samanthia Johnson set an NMU school record and took the GLIAC Championship in the discus with a throw of 157-11. The mark improved her NCAA provisional qualifying mark, and she now stands eighth in the country in the event.

Wildcat senior Brittni Wirtz reached the podium with a third-place finish in the 100 meter dash. Wirtz clocked a 12.01 in the event.

NMU freshman Ine Mylle picked up third-place points for the Wildcats in the triple jump. Mylle recorded a provisional qualifying mark with a distance of 38-09.50.

NMU junior Avadon James picked up a fourth-place finish in the 200 meter dash by setting an NMU school record with a time of 25.47.

The Wildcats 4x100 relay team of James, junior Jasmine King, freshman Jessie Kushner and Wirtz placed eighth in the event clocking a 49.46.

NMU freshman Kameron Burmeister picked up eighth-place points for the Wildcats with a time of 17:39.29.
