NMU Wins Seven Events At Rex Foster Invite

WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The Northern Michigan University track & field team won seven events as it completed its opening weekend of outdoor competition at the Rex Foster Invitational Friday. It was the second meet in as many days as NMU opened the season Thursday at the St. Norbert Twilight meet.

The Wildcats finished fourth out of eight teams in the event.

Northern Michigan took the top two spots in the women's 100 meter dash as senior Brittni Wirtz won the event with a time of 12.09 while junior Avadon James was second at 12.23. James picked up a win in the 200 meter dash clocking a time of 25.63.

NMU freshmen Kieren Becker and Clara Churchill took the top two spots in the 800 meter run. Becker won the event with a time of 2:26.13 file Churchill came in second at 2:27.36. Becker also notched a fourth-place finish in the 1,500 clocking a time of 5:01.79.

Freshman Kameron Burmeister and senior Emily Allen took the top two spots in the 5K. Burmeister finished in 18:03.16 for the win while Allen crossed at 19:25.88, finishing second.

Senior Jasmine King won the 100 hurdles clocking a 14.55 while NMU sophomore Shannon Flynn picked up first-place points in the 3K steeplechase with a time of 11:56.58.

NMU sophomore Jasmine Williams finished second in the discus throw with a toss of 144-06 while freshman Samanthia Johnson was fifth at 133-08.

The Wildcats also picked up points by wining the 4x100 relay and finishing third in the 4x400.

NMU returns to action at the Hillsdale Invitational on April 11.
