Lacrosse Prepares For First Road Test This Season

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University Women's Lacrosse will experience their first road test of the season this week as they visit Wheeling Jesuit University on Wednesday then travel to Laker Erie College on Thursday.

  LAST TIME OUT

The Wildcats fell to #4 Lindenwood University 17-7 Sunday afternoon.  NMU scored four goals in the first half, which was the most goals allowed by the Lions in any game they had played prior. The seven total goals were just two shy of the total season goals Lindenwood had allowed for the season as well. 

  LEADING THE WAY

Freshman Jessica Daniels (Brighton, Mich.) leads the Wildcats with eight goals this season, averaging four goals a game. The first-year player has 10 shots on goal, giving her an .800 shooting percentage so far into her career. She is 2-3 on free position shots and has added three ground balls and four draw controls. 

  GETTING STOPS

Freshman goalkeeper Cam Stilson (Brighton, Mich.) is second in the league with .500 save percentage. She is also in the GLIAC as she has made 25 saves through her rookie campaign so far. 

  SCOOP IT UP

Freshman Jessica Close (Stafford, Va.) paces the team with six ground balls so far this season. Sophomore Shannon Walus (Brighton, Mich.) is second on the team with five ground balls. Junior Graison Ringlever (Mattawan, Mich.) and sophomore Tess Kostelec (Columbia, Md.) have added four ground balls in the team's two games. 

  GETTING THE DRAW

Ringlever is leading the team with 12 draw controls which places her sixth in the conference. She is second on the team with six goals and has caused two turnovers defensively. 

  NMU VERSUS WHEELING JESUIT

NMU fell to Wheeling Jesuit in overtime last season, falling 1413. The Cardinals enter Wednesday contest 0-2 on the season, falling to Roberts Wesleyan in the season opener then fell to Findlay University 21-8 in the last outing. 

  NMU VERSUS LAKE ERIE

NMU did not face Lake Erie last season but did take on the Storm in their inaugural season during 2017. Lake Erie is currently 1-1 on the season, falling to Grand Valley State University 14-4 in their season opener and defeating the University of Charleston 12-11 this past Saturday.
