Wildcats Set to Host #4 Lindenwood Sunday

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University Women's Lacrosse takes on #4 Lindenwood University in the Superior Dome Sunday afternoon.

  LAST TIME OUT

The Wildcats defeated Albion College in their season opener to get 2019 started with a victory. NMU saw five players score goals in the effort to help guide the team to a 17-8 win. 

  GETTING GOALS

Five players scored goals for NMU in Saturday's victory. Junior Graison Ringlever (Mattawan, Mich.) led the way along with freshman Aleya Speas (Castle Rock, Colo.) as they both scored five goals. Ringlever scored three goals in the second half to help secure the victory. Speas scored the first season goal for the Wildcats less than two minutes in.

Freshman Jessica Daniels (Brighton, Mich.) added four goals while sophomore Tess Kostelec (Columbia, Md.) chipped in with two while posting four assists. Freshman Emily Renfrow (Okemos, Mich.) aided the effort with a goal.

  SCOOP IT UP

NMU notched 20 ground balls in the contest while Albion on mustered 14. Sophomore Shannon Walus (Brighton, Mich.) tallied a team-best four ground balls while Kostelec, Daniels and Ringlever all finished with three each. Renfrow and freshman Jessica Close (Stafford, Va.) gave the team two each. The 20 total ground balls is tied for the third most in a game since the program started in 2017. The program has achieved 20 grounds balls in a game five times.

  GETTING THE DRAW

Helping the Wildcats to victory were 13 draw controls. Ringlever led the way with eight draw controls. Daniels and Renfrow both added two while Kinder added one to the effort. 

  NMU VERSUS LINDENWOOD

This will be the second matchup between the two teams in program history. Last season the Lions bested the Wildcats. This year's team is ranked #4 in the country and enter the game at 3-0 this season, allowing a total of six goals in those three games. Lindenwood will take on the University of Findlay on Friday night.
