MARQUETTE, MICH. – Four student-athletes from the Northern Michigan University Golf teams earned All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors along with the Women's Golf team receiving a bid to the 2019 NCAA Women's Golf East Regional and a men's golfer getting a bid to the 2019 NCAA Men's Golf Central/Midwest Regional.
Senior Karissa Guthrie (Pierre, S.D.) and junior Caro Els (Swakopmund, Namibia) were named to the All-GLIAC First Team. Guthrie averaged a score of 78.18 per round with a season best round of 71. Els finished the year with a best round of 69 and led the women's team with an average round of 77.18.
Senior Haley Hewer (Penticton, B.C.) earned Honorable Mention honors, boasting a 79.68 average for the year. Her best round of the year was a 74.
On the men's side, senior Austin Elsner (New London, Wis.) was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team. Elsner led the men's squad with an average round score of 74.25, achieving a best score of 71 two times during the season.
It was also announced that the women's team has been selected to the 2019 NCAA Women's Golf East Regional for third-straight year. This year's regional takes place at The Pear in Owensboro, Kentucky starting May 6 and runs through May 8.
Elsner was selected to compete in the 2019 NCAA Men's Golf Central/Midwest Regional as an individual, which takes place May 9-May 11 in Hot Springs, Arkansas at the Hot Springs Country Club. Elsner will be the first men's golfer to appear in an NCAA Regional since the 2015-16 team made the Regionals.
This is the first year in school history that both the men's and women's team will be represented in the NCAA Regionals.
