LAS VEGAS, N.V. — The Northern Michigan women's golf team began its spring season by competing against Division I teams at the Jackrabbit Invitational, a three-round tournament held Friday and Saturday at the Siena Golf Club.

Two Wildcats finished in the top half of the tournament's field.

In her first invitational as a Wildcat, Caro Els tied for 16th with a 230 (75-76-79). Haley Hewer finished one stroke behind (74-75-82), taking 18th.

Northern Michigan, which shot a 958 (320-315-323) to place seventh, was the only Division II team in attendance. The Wildcats competed against programs from the Summit League, the Big East, the Mid-American Conference and the Western Athletic Conference.

Host South Dakota State (297-291-302=890) was the champion. Jackrabbit Teresa Toscano shot a 212 (73-68-71) to win the individual title.

The Wildcats return to the course when they compete at the NC4K College Classic on April 2-3.
