BAY CITY, Mich. – Sophomore Lexi Smith (St. Germain, Wis.) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball North Player of the Week for the second time this season and second time in the three weeks. NMU has won Player of the Week honors three-straight week after senior Darby Youngstrom (Cook, Minn.) won the award last week.
Smith scored 21 points as she helped lead the Wildcats to a 56-43 victory over #9 Grand Valley State University Saturday afternoon, finishing the game 10-17 from the field. On Thursday, the sophomore scored 16 points and tied her career-high with nine rebounds to help NMU defeat Davenport University 69-61.
For the week, Smith averaged 18.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. She also added five assists and two steals for the week. She now leads the team with 11.1 points per game and is shooting 47% from the field. She is also third with 5.2 rebounds and dishes out 1.5 assists per game as well.
The Wildcats are now tied at the top of the GLIAC standings at 9-1 in the conference and boast a 14-4 overall season record. NMU returns to action Saturday to take on rival Michigan Technological University inside the Berry Events Center at 11 a.m.
