Men's Swim & Dive Continues Success On Day Two

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Northern Michigan University Swim and Dive men's team concluded their second day at the Calvin College Invitational with the men remaining in third with 702 points, behind Calvin College and Grand Valley State University.

  RELAY WIN

The men started their day off by touching first in the 200-yard freestyle relay and achieving an NCAA B cut. The team of freshman Roberto Camera (Rozzano, Italy), freshman Ivan Amillo Escobedo (Valencia, Spain), sophomore Henry Bauer (Howell, Mich.), and senior Lajos Budai (Kecskemet, Hungary) finished at a time of 1:21.16.

  INDIVIDUAL PLACES

Junior Ondrej Zach (Rudolfov, Czech Republic) took third in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall at 1:51.45. Camera touched first in the 100-yard breaststroke at a time of 54.46. Budai placed third in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing at 48.82.

  FREESTYLE TAKEOVER

The Wildcats took over the 200-yard freestyle event as freshman Ivan Amillo Escobedo (Valencia, Spain) took first with a time of 1:37.67 while sophomore Jon Busse (Stillwater, Minn.) was right behind in second at 1:39.50, earning both men NCAA B cuts. Finishing fifth in the same event was senior Jonas Reinhold (Nienhagen, Germany) touching at 1:41.77. 

The men also controlled the 50-yard freestyle, taking three of the top seven places. Budai started the trend off placing second with a time of 20.39. Camera followed closely behind taking third at 20.53. Amillo Escobedo finished it out by touching seventh at 21.10.

  TWO 'CATS, ONE EVENT

Freshman Erikas Kapocius (Ignalina, Lithuania) finished second for the 'Cats at 3:59.32 in the 400-yard individual medley. Sophomore Levi Lewis (Little Rock, Ark.) touched fourth at 4:08.30.

  DIVING

Freshman Ryan Leach (Colorado Springs, Colo.) placed seventh in the 3-meter dive with 342.45 points.

  UP NEXT

The Wildcats return tomorrow as they conclude the annual Calvin College Invitational. Tomorrow's events will be the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard breaststroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 400-yard freestyle relay, and 1-meter diving. The preliminary events beginning at 10 a.m. and the finals begin at 6 p.m.
