Wildcats Complete Day Two of NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Northern Michigan University Swim & Dive team completed the second day of the NCAA Championships and came away and saw four individuals and a relay score points for the Wildcats. 


The day started with the women's 200-yard Freestyle Relay came in 12th with the team of sophomore Margaret Vaitkus (Munster, Ind.), senior Regan Kilburn (Muscatine, Iowa), sophomore Lena Soulas (London, England) and junior Rachel Helm (Newcastle, England) coming in at 1:34.26.


Senior Ryan Leonard (South Wales, Australia) finished the night with more points as he finished in 15th place for Honorary All-American honors. After qualifying 16th in the preliminary race with a time of 3:55.57, he moved to 15th in the finals to give NMU two points.

Helm gave NMU a point in the women's 100-yard Butterfly by coming in at 16th with a time of 55.73 to be named an Honorary All-American.


The team saw three women compete in the women's 1-Meter Dive with two earning points. Freshman Mary Grossman (Goshen, Ind.) led the way with 408.65 to finish 10th overall. Senior Angela Probstfeld (White Lake, Mich) posted a 13th place finish with a score of 3.92.25.

Junior Jamie Kimble (Prior Lake, Minn.) was less than two points away from scoring points as she came in 17th and posted a score of 381.70.


Soulas competed in the 200-yard Freestyle and finished with a time of 1:51.22. In the men's race, junior Lajos Budai (Kecskemet, Hungary) posted a time of 1:38.61.

In the women's 400-Yard Medley Relay, Kilburn, freshman Briana Arnold (Black Creek, Wis.), junior Madelyn Irelan (Owosso, Mich.) and Soulas notched a time of 3:52.00.


After the second day, the women's team has 42 points and are in 16th place out of 34 teams that have scored points at this year's Championships. The men's team is 19th of 26 teams with points as they have 26 points.


The Wildcats return to action Friday for Day Three of the NCAA Championships and will compete in the 500-Yard Freestyle, 100-Yard Backstroke, 200-Yard Butterfly and the 800-Yard Freestyle Relay.
