MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The Northern Michigan University Men's Swim and Dive team finishes the 2018-19 dual meet season undefeated after defeating University of Wisconsin Green Bay 164-132 Saturday. It is the second straight season the men's team has defeated the Division I Phoenix.
| RELAYS FOR THE WIN
NMU started off strong by taking the first event of the meet, the 200-yard Medley Relay. The men swam it in 1:32.79 with a team of senior Renars Bundzis (Riga, Latvia/Riga Secondary School), senior Arnoldo Herrera (Heredia, Costa Rica/Saint Jude), junior Maks Kapustin (Minneapolis, Minn./Henry Sibley), and senior Joshua Cosgrove (Bury, U.K./Bury College).
The Wildcats then finished with a win in their second relay of the day and the meet's final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of junior Jonas Reinhold (Nienhagen, Germany/Holty Gymnasium-Celle), freshman Jon Busse (Stillwater, Minn.), Cosgrove and junior Lajos Budai (Kecskemet, Hungary/Bolyai Janos) took the race in 3:09.67.
| LET'S DO TWO
The Wildcats featured four swimmers winning two races each. Senior Janne Roovers (Khobar, Saudi Arabia/Dhahran) captured first place in the 1000-yard freestyle, touching a time of 9:35.73. He then took the 500 free in 4:41.79.
Bundzis swept the backstroke events, winning the 100-yard backstroke, 50.77, then won with a time of 1:51.28 in the 200-yard backstroke. Herrera took both breaststroke events as he won the 100-yard breaststroke, 57.68, and the 200-yard breaststroke, 2:05.88.
Rounding out the two-time winners was Budai. The junior won the 50-yard freestyle by touching the wall in 21.32 and followed with victory in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.91.

In addition to aiding the 400-yard freestyle relay to victory, Busse also won the 200-yard freestyle with a winning time of 1:43.29. Senior Ryan Leonard (South Wales, Australia/Toronto) helped the Wildcats with a victory in the 200-yard individual medley, posting a winning time of 1:54.51.

The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, January 19 as they will celebrate Senior Day in an Intrasquad Meet. As the final meet, the Wildcats will also conduct their annual Skins races, pitting each swimmer against each other in a fun competition between teammates.
