Men's Swim & Dive Adds Eight for Next Season

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University Men's Swimming & Diving has signed eight new athletes to join the Wildcats starting in the 2019-2020 season. The team will add four swimmers and four divers.

Joining the men's team will be swimmers Roberto Camera, Erikas Kapocius, Adrian Curbelo-Tejera, Bence Dort along with divers Mohab Ishak, Micah Currie, Ryan Leach and Andrew Garland.

Roberto Camera comes to NMU from Milan, Italy and the Forum Dilett Club Team. Camera was a World Cup qualifier and reached the A Finals of the Italian National Championships. His posted times would serve as NCAA Qualifiers in the 50-yard Freestyle as well as the 100 and 200-yard Breaststroke races that fell under All-American times from the 2019 NCAA Championships.

From Las Palmas De Gran Canaria, Spain, Adrian Curbelo Tejera transfers in from a university in Spain. The incoming sophomore posted European Championship times in the 100 and 200-yard Butterfly, which would also qualify for the NCAA Championships. He is under the NCAA's 50-yard Freestyle time while his 100-yard Butterfly time met this year's All-American standard.

Erikas Kapcocius comes in from Lituania where he will graduate this spring from Ignalinos Gimnazija. Kapcocius has posted NCAA Qualifying times in both the 200 and 400-yard Individual Medley while winning each event at the International Swimming Cup held in Poznan, Poland.

A 2018 graduate of Rudas Laszlo Szakkozepiskola school in Hungary, Bence Dort will fill the team's distance needs. He was a semifinalist in the 400-yard Freestyle and the 200-yard Backstroke in the Hungarian National Championships while his times in the 500-yard Freestyle, 1000-yard Freestye and 200-yard Backstroke would place him in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference top-eight of each race.

A diver, Mohab Ishak joins the team from Cairo, Egypt. A transfer student from Helwan University, Ishak competes as a member of th Egyption National Team and represented his country in the 2016 Olympic Games in the Men's 10-meter Platform Diving.

Micah Currie hails from Blue Springs, Missouri and dives for the Twisters Dive Team. He earned fifth place at the Missouri High School State Championship as a junior and followed with a fourth-place finish, scoring 453 points his senior season. Currie is a three-time All-State selection and was his team's captain.

Also joing the men's team are divers Ryan Leach of Colorado Springs and Andrew Garland of Rudyard, Michigan. Leach competes for Cheyenne Mountain High School and Peak Diving Club. A three-time state championship qualifier, his highest 11-dive score is 396 points. Garland dove for Houghton High School and has been a three-time Upper Peninsula Championship Qualifier

This talented crop of newcomers will be looked upon to make an immediate impact for a 2019-2020 squad that must replace 13 seniors, and the first four-year class since the program restarted.
