BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Northern Michigan University Women's Swimming and Diving Team posted four first-place finishes on the final day of the Calvin Winter Invitational.
In the final day, NMU featured the 400-yard freestyle relay team winning in a time of 3:27.79.. The relay team of sophomore Rachel Helm (Newcastle upon Tyne, England/Burnside College), sophomore Victoria Reese (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard South), freshman Gabriella Spajic (New South Wales, Australia/De La Salle Catholic College Cronulla), and freshman Lena Soulas (London, England/Woodhouse College) captured the victory and their time earned them an NCAA B-cut.
The 200-yard medley relay team of junior Regan Kilburn (Muscatine, Iowa), Helm, sophomore Madelyn Irelan (Owosso, Mich.) and freshman Margaret Vaitkus (Munster, Ind.) set a new school record by finishing in 1:43.49.
Helm also captured a first-place in the 200-yard backstroke with a 1:59.29. Kilburn took second place and junior Savanna Saunders (Manchester, England/Bridgewater) claimed third. All three qualified for an NCAA B-cut.
Soulas rounded out the final day victories with an NCAA B-cut time of 50.60 in the 100-yard freestyle.
The Wildcats finished with 1566.5 points and took second place out of eight teams. The team will return to action on January 5 to visit University of West Florida.
